Votes appreciated
To the editor: On behalf of the Toledo Area Regional Transit Authority’s employees and its Board of Trustees, I want to thank all voters in Lucas and Wood counties who voted for Issue 7, the renewal of TARTA’s one-mill, 10-year property tax levy, at the Nov. 2 General Election. Your tax bill will not go up as a result of the passage of Issue 7.

You have made it possible for TARTA to continue to operate and provide critical transportation services to those living in TARTA’s service area, including your friend who can’t afford a car; your daughter who rides TARTA to college classes; your parents who take TARTA to the senior center, stores and the doctor’s office, so you don’t have to take them; your neighbor who is disabled; and your cousin who rides TARTA to and from work.

We have and will continue to review our existing fixed-line service for improvements, including the use of smaller buses wherever possible.  Many changes are on the horizon for TARTA’s Toledo Area Regional Paratransit Service as well. We also are planning to consolidate Call-A-Ride areas to expand this suburban services’ coverage area.

TARTA’s mission is to provide the best service to the people who need it. To those of you who say you do not use TARTA’s services, I ask you to look around. You’ll be surprised by how many people you know and depend on, depend on TARTA.

Your vote for Issue 7 was needed and appreciated.
James K. Gee
General Manager, TARTA

Shortchanged?
To the editor: I cannot figure out our great government. The thing is they give themselves raises and great benefits for life while being trillions of dollars in debt.

On the other hand, with a program like Social Security, they say no cost-of-living increase. I guess they want to live great while the older people who paid into the program just live to die.

Why not use some of the money they gave to the banks and companies who gave million-dollar bonuses to the people who did a bad job.

And to think we voted them in office to shortchange us.
