Looking for that specific color on a late model used car and tired of searching all the used car lots?

Terry Paul, owner of Genoa Ford and Genoa Chevrolet, has a new service which allows him to launch a wider search for that color or special feature. Paul’s dealerships are part of an auction service that allows his salespeople to attend wholesale auctions via the Internet.

Paul still utilizes two auction buyers but they can only be at one auction at a time. With the Internet, he now has access to 20 to 30 auction houses throughout the country. He has sent for cars located in Nashville, Columbus, Detroit and Cincinnati. So, he says, if you want a 2007 white Malibu with blue interior and 20,000 miles, he has just bettered his chance of finding one.

Paul targets cars still under warranty—usually those three years old or less. The auction house has the responsibility to portray the car accurately and if the dealer is not satisfied he can return the car.

The new service has reduced the price of buying the car for the dealership.
