Dewey Caldwell and his Janet, of Oregon, figured they’d enjoy their 12-day trip to Alaska in September. What they didn’t anticipate that they’d have the opportunity to meet the much-talked-about Republican candidate for vice president.

At the time, Gov. Sarah Palin was in Fairbanks to see her son off to Iraq.

One night on the trip, the Caldwells stayed at The Bear Lodge, which happened to be where Gov. Palin was staying.

20th reunion planned
The Waite High School class of 1988 will hold a 20-year reunion Oct. 17 at the Crown Plaza Hotel, downtown Toledo (formerly Wyndham).

Cocktails will be held at 6p.m. Dinner will be held at 7 p.m. Hotel reservations may be made now. Contact Vicki (Hahn) Sedlak at 419-346-4081 or vsedlak@bex.net. Deadline for reservations is Sept. 21.

The Clay High School class of 1988 will hold a 20th reunion Oct. 10 and 11.

Classmates are invited to meet at 6:30 p.m. before the football game vs. Scott High School, which is also alumni band night. Bleachers will be reserved for members of the class in the end zone section. Tickets for the game are available at the gate. Catch up after the game at a gathering at 1010 Bury Rd.
