Star knitter honored
A group of nine ladies from with Lakewood Church of the Brethren, Millbury, meets every Tuesday to knit, laugh and learn.

The knitters, dubbed “The Lord’s Laughing Ladies,” work on personal projects and also knit chemo caps and prayer shawls for others, and have a fun time doing it.

Group member Cher Johnson, won Best of Show at both the Wood County Fair and the Pemberville Fair. Johnson, who had never entered any needlework competition, was surprised to learn she won top prize in both fairs for her knitted sweater. She also earned a blue ribbon for a knitted cowl she entered.

Lakewood Church of the Brethren, located at 27009 Lemoyne Rd., also has a quilting group that meets every Tuesday. New members are always welcome.

A bounty of benefits
The Wood County Juvenile Court’s community service work garden for 2016 has been a success.

Approximately 81 youths assisted 12 community service work crews this summer to help with the garden, located adjacent to the Wood County Juvenile Court Center. Harvesting and work continues into the fall.

The garden, organized and supervised by the Wood County Juvenile Court Probation Department, allows juveniles to perform community service work to assist in paying off fines, costs and restitution.
