Military Notes

 U.S. Air Force Airman Benjamin J. Bricker graduated from basic military training at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland, San Antonio, Texas.  The airman completed an intensive, eight-week program that included training in military discipline and studies, Air Force core values, physical fitness, and basic warfare principles and skills. Airmen who complete basic training also earn four credits toward an associate in applied science degree through the Community College of the Air Force.  The son of Edith and Gerald Bricker, of Millbury, he is a 2014 graduate of Genoa Area High School.

U.S. Air Force Air National Guard Airman 1st Class Connor B. Phillips graduated from basic military training at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland, San Antonio, Texas.

The airman completed an intensive, eight-week program that included training in military discipline and studies, Air Force core values, physical fitness, and basic warfare principles and skills.

Airmen who complete basic training also earn four credits toward an associate in applied science degree through the Community College of the Air Force.

The daughter of Debbie and Brian Phillips of Oregon, she is a 2015 graduate of Clay High School.

U.S. Air Force Airman Tyler M. Johnson graduated from basic military training at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland, San Antonio, Texas.

The airman completed an intensive, eight-week program that included training in military discipline and studies, Air Force core values, physical fitness, and basic warfare principles and skills.

Airmen who complete basic training also earn four credits toward an associate in applied science degree through the Community College of the Air Force.

Johnson is the son of Christina L. Baumgardter of Northfield, Ohio, and Timothy L. Johnson of Oak Harbor. He is a 2014 graduate of Oak Harbor High School.

Hailey M. Shields, a 2014 Clay High School graduate, has received an Army Reserve Officers' Training Corps scholarship to attend Bowling Green State University.

The scholarship pays for tuition, fees, an allowance for buying textbooks, and a monthly stipend for up to 10 months of each school year in which the scholarship is in effect.

Scholarships are awarded on a merit basis based on academic and personal achievements, extracurricular activities, physical fitness, leadership abilities, and in-person interviews. The scholarship recipients enroll as members of the Army ROTC battalion at their colleges.

Upon graduation from college and completion of the ROTC program requirements, the student receives a bachelor's degree and a commission as a second lieutenant in the Army. All scholarship students incur a military service obligation of eight years, which they may fulfill through either active-duty or reserve Army service or service.
