Letters to the Press

A heartfelt thanks

To the editor: The Elmore Unit of the Salvation Army wishes to thank the Elmore Kiwanis, Woodville Mayor Richard Harman and all our volunteers for faithfully standing by our kettles.

We collected $7,423.54 from the Elmore and Woodmore communities.

This year, we disbursed $3,363.96 to our friends in need for help with heating, rent, utilities and fuel. If you have a need for any assistance, please contact Sharon Arndt. We are here to help you.

 Volunteers thanked

To the editor: Thank you to all the volunteers who helped place wreaths on the graves of Ottawa County veterans on Saturday Dec. 14, Wreaths across America day.

Campus sparkles

To the editor: The Riverview Healthcare Campus is sparkling with more than 20 Christmas trees and scenes this holiday season. Residents and guests have delighted at the work of the energetic volunteers that helped with the holiday displays that will remain up to be enjoyed through New Years’ Day.

Thank you to the following groups whom decorated trees this year: Oak Harbor High School Cheerleaders, Mary’s Hair Design, Apple Festival Royalty, Memory Keepers, The Ohio State Alumni Club of Ottawa County, Ottawa Soil and Water Conservation District, Riverview Healthcare Campus Employees, the Auxiliary at Riverview Healthcare Campus, and the following 4-H Clubs - Ottawa County Junior Leadership, Ottawa County Town and Country, Carroll-n-Company, Salem All Stars, Dirty Boots, The Goal Setters, and Making Strides.

Voters to lose their voices?

To the editor: Fresh off a recent election, when people are tired of politics, the Republican majority in the Ohio Statehouse is rushing through an attack on voters’ rights to participate in direct democracy. Ohioans have had the power of citizen ballot initiatives for more than 100 years. Now Republican leaders in Ohio are trying to take away those rights with little public debate, and at a time when most families are busy getting ready for the holidays paying little attention to the state legislature.
