Letters to the Press

To the editor: This information is being furnished with regards to the recent sewer back-up into some homes at plat 1 of The Vineyard.  The problem is a citywide issue which the City of Oregon is monitoring in order to take corrective action.  When the previous owner developed plat 1 there was no plumbing code requirement to install back water valves.  Current plumbing codes have incorporated the use of these valves when plumbing fixtures are installed in the basement level. This is one reason why Oregon Homes, which is building in plat 2 (Merlot Village at the Vineyard) has had no issues with sewer back ups.

A secret business?

To the editor: There are plenty of empty buildings downtown, just waiting for buddies of those who played a role in ruining East Toledo’s only means to draw large crowds at sporting and entertainment events. Now that these back-door policies are becoming part of the financial reward for helping relocate the arena downtown have vanished, the River East Economic Revitalization Corp. wants to suddenly become our long-lost savior and tax the hell out of us.

To the editor: With prom season in full swing and fatalities and injury accidents statistically up during prom and graduation season, Fremont Ross High School displayed the deadly effects of drinking and driving with a mock crash Wednesday afternoon. Students from Fremont Ross, St Joseph’s Central Catholic and Vanguard School watched as some of their classmates were injured in a mock car accident by not making good choices when it comes to alcohol and getting behind the wheel.
