Letters to the Press

Voters to lose their voices?

To the editor: Fresh off a recent election, when people are tired of politics, the Republican majority in the Ohio Statehouse is rushing through an attack on voters’ rights to participate in direct democracy. Ohioans have had the power of citizen ballot initiatives for more than 100 years. Now Republican leaders in Ohio are trying to take away those rights with little public debate, and at a time when most families are busy getting ready for the holidays paying little attention to the state legislature.

Holiday Bureau

donations sought

To the editor: The Ottawa County Holiday Bureau is preparing for its 56th year assisting local residents with community donations for the Christmas season.

The Holiday Bureau has always had a strong base of support from individuals, schools, churches and businesses, and we hope that legacy will continue this year.

During the Christmas season, the Holiday Bureau makes preparations to help individuals and families in need in Ottawa County. Assistance from the community is essential. We welcome donations of food, toys and money.

In 2017, our goals were realized through contributions we received from you. Because of the kindness of the community, we were able to help many families in Ottawa County; that meant helping 2,008 individuals, 884 of whom were children 18 years and younger.

Teamwork appreciated

To the editor: This was the first year that the City of Oregon hosted a Rollin Food Truck Farmers Market. Five events were held throughout the summer, and they were very successful.

We would like to thank the Josephs for the use of their property on Navarre Avenue, and Pat Catan’s for the use of their additional parking area.

Also, many thanks to Yvonne Thoma-Patton, director of the Eastern Maumee Bay Chamber of Commerce for recruiting and organizing the vendors.

Thank you to City of Oregon Street Superintendent, Keith Henninger for supplying necessary equipment needed for the events, and thanks to Clerk of Council Tina Evans for her help in coordinating the necessary public relations.

Hope for good weather next summer.
