On Friday (Apr. 17), Clay softball pitcher/left fielder Erin Screptock signed her National Letter of Intent to play collegiate softball at Notre Dame College, an NAIA school in Cleveland.

“(Screptock) worked hard in the off-season. She is a strong pitcher and very dependable in left field,” Clay softball coach Brenda Radabaugh said.

Woodmore senior pitcher Samantha Michaelis did likewise, signing to play at Belmont Abbey in North Carolina.

Michaelis, an All-Suburban Lakes League choice as a junior, pitched every inning last year for the Wildcats because of her movement and control, Woodmore coach Aaron Clouse said.

“The strength of this (year’s) team is defense and pitching,” Clouse told The Press. “Sami (Michaelis) is going to make it difficult for opposing teams with her experience and skill. She has an experienced defense behind her.”

At Lake, Lauren Lind signed to continue her volleyball career at Owens Community College. Lind, a four-year letterman in volleyball, earned All-SLL honors four times and twice was chosen for All-District honors. She owns school records for most kills in a season (401) and in a career (735). Lind was also a four-year letterman in basketball, earning All-SLL honors three times. In softball, Lind earned three letters, including All-SLL.

Reeder National Champ
Genoa Middle School wrestler Maxwell Reeder (seventh grade) competed in a National Wrestling tournament on April 11 in Battle Creek, Mich., where he won the national championship competing with wrestlers from across seven Midwest States.

To qualify for Nationals, Reeder was third at the Northwest Ohio Regional and then he avenged his sole regional loss and was first at the Ohio state tournament. Reeder was also voted the Most Valuable Wrestler of the tournament at the state meet for his age group. Reeder competed in the Division IV age group (13-14) at 86 pounds.

The Ohio tournaments are sponsored by OURWAY (Ohio United Wrestling Association for Youth) and the National is sponsored by NUWAY (National United Wrestling Association for Youth). Genoa varsity coach Dominick D’Emilio says Reeder now has four “giant sculptured eagle trophies” for his efforts (Regional, State, National, and State wrestler of the tournament).
