Spring is drawing near, and it’s not only time to finally shed the last of those holiday pounds and rip those abs to get ready for that future beach vacation, but it’s also a great time to get your proverbial “house” in order, in areas ranging from proper nutrition and stress-management strategies, to which of your favorite beauty products are safest for you and prescription drug safety.

To help you get started, the Woodville Business & Community Association will present the Second Annual Woodville Health, Beauty & Fitness Fair March 17 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Woodville Elementary, 708 W. Main St.

The 2nd Annual Woodville Health, Beauty & Fitness Fair will feature a full
slate of demonstrations, presentations & giveaways.

“When I took over as president of the WBCA, we were trying to come up with some ideas for new, fresh projects, and it was then that we noticed that a lot of our members were in the health, beauty, and fitness fields,” said Master James Taylor, who for years has owned and operated a number of martial arts dojangs in Curtice, Genoa, Columbus Grove and now in Woodville (Taylor’s Tae Kwon Do & Tumbling, housed in the old Legion building on the corner of Elm and College streets).

Master Taylor currently holds the ranks of sixth Dan (sixth-degree black belt) in Tae Kwon Do, third Dan in Hapkido (Korean self-defense, grappling), and is proficient in kali, a Filipino style of stick fighting.

“We felt that Woodville has a lot to offer the various communities in these fields, so members of the WBCA sat down and formulated a plan to bring all of these experts together under one roof,” he said. “We feel this event gives its attendees a nice chance to mingle with and interview these local professionals without feeling pressured into buying (the goods and services they have to offer).

“In the past, we’ve drawn attendees from Woodville, Genoa, Elmore, Gibsonburg, Pemberville, Oak Harbor and Millbury,” Taylor said. “Last year, we had a jam-packed schedule and our attendees were keyed in on professionals speaking on topics such as child safety, spinal decompression, prescription drug abuse, yoga, eating right and senior living. I think the quality of information that is available is really phenomenal.”

Like last year, this year’s event will include an eclectic, informative itinerary. The schedule includes a welcome at 10 a.m., followed by presentations on bullying at 10:15 a.m.; child safety for parents at 10:30 a.m.; fire safety at 10:45 a.m.; stress management at 11 a.m.; yoga at 11:15 a.m.; hair products at 11:30 a.m.; prescription safety at 11:45 a.m., noon; senior living at 12:15 and 12:30 p.m. and eye care at 12:45 p.m.

An instructor in self-defense since 1979, Master Taylor and Taylor’s TNT will handle the “Child Safety for Parents” session of the program, while other local experts and WBCA members contributing will include Cheryl’s Chop Shop, Country Hair Creations, Dr. Laub Eye Care, Hatha Yoga w/ Kim, Hidden Hills Golf Club, His & Hers Hair Salon, Mary Kay Cosmetics by Carla Perez, Natural Health Center, Otterbein Portage Valley Retirement Center, Peak Physical Therapy, Pills ‘N’ Packages, Wittkamp Insurance, Woodmore Local Schools, Woodville Senior Center and WOW Fitness.

In addition, the fair will include a free spray-tan booth, a free chair massage station and lots of free giveaways, prizes, and vendor discounts.

Admission is free and the facility is ground-floor accessible for senior citizens.
