After decades of waiting for vertical development on the 127-acre Marina District, Toledo Mayor Wade Kapszukiewicz says it is finally going to happen in 2019.

Speaking to about 50 guests at the Birmingham Development Corporation meeting, he cites a meeting he had with developer Frank Kass of Columbus-based Continental Real Estate Companies, which plans to develop housing and retail that will complement a Metropark on the riverfront property in East Toledo.

Oregon voters overwhelmingly approved the renewal of a .5 mill senior services levy, and Jerusalem Township voters supported a .25 mill levy in the midterm election Nov. 6.

“I think voters, in passing this levy, want us to achieve our objectives in helping provide services to seniors,” said Oregon City Administrator Mike Beazley. “We’ll continue on the path we’ve been on, and partner in the community to make sure we get this done.”

The senior levy, originally passed on Nov. 5, 2013 to provide funding for senior services, was passed by a vote of 5,779 (74.67 percent) in favor, to 1,960, (25.33 percent), opposed, according to unofficial results from the Lucas County Board of Elections.

Genoa Post 324 Commander Joel Hirt says when a veteran joins the American Legion, he’s supporting the Legion’s four pillars — veterans affairs and rehabilitation, national security, Americanism, and children and youth.

“The Legion is essentially veterans serving veterans. The foundation and the four pillars it’s founded on are as important today as they were 100 years ago. They are the unifying voice. Membership is important because our numbers speak loud for our veterans, so it’s important to be part of it and the community,” Hirt said.
