The economic benefits of a planned 800-megawatt electrical power plant in the City of Oregon that would burn natural gas instead of coal dominated the testimony offered during a hearing held Tuesday at the city administration building.

Representatives of government, business, and labor expressed support for the $860 million project during the hearing held by the Power Siting Board of the Public Utilities Commission of Ohio.

A resolution that gives the township fire chief the discretion to provide emergency help anywhere in the state has been approved by the Lake Township trustees.

The resolution authorizes the chief or officer on duty to respond to a request for assistance from any political subdivision in the state and eliminates the need for a contract or mutual-aid agreement.

Fremont Speedway is asking for area businesses, race fans and race teams and the entire Northwest Ohio community to help kick cancer research into high gear.

The track is holding the Second Annual Fremont Speedway Kick-It Kick Ball Tournament on Sunday, May 26th. Proceeds from the tournament and auction will go towards cancer research through the national Kick-It Foundation. The foundation is supported by NASCAR Sprint Cup Champion Jeff Gordon through his children’s foundation, the Cleveland Indians Baseball team and the World Adult Kickball Association. So far over a $1 million has been raised through generous donations and events like Fremont Speedway’s Kick ball Tournament.

For the residents of the Village of Genoa who haven’t had the push to clean up their yards, the village has a new incentive.

Village council has modified the municipal code section regarding nuisance property maintenance issues. Council members used the emergency provision for the legislation so that enforcement takes effect immediately rather than 30 days, Village Administrator Kevin Gladden said.
