  Get ready to see a wave of maroon and gray as Genoa High School athletes take to the streets to rally boosters.

  Freshmen, sophomore and junior athletes involved in junior varsity and varsity sports this school year will be knocking on residential and business doors April 25, as part of the Genoa Athletic Boosters’ Annual Membership Drive. 

You’ll know them. They’ll be dressed in lettermen jackets, uniforms and warm ups that all scream Genoa Comets.

  Last year, there were 24 groups that canvassed the area. About the same is expected this year. Each group has a designated neighborhood, gets some public speaking tips and heads out to collect memberships.

A resident of the Lake School District has raised questions about a fundraiser donkey basketball game scheduled for April 23, saying it sends the wrong message to the students and community.

 Virginia Holmes, a mother of elementary school students, writes in a letter to Jim Witt, Lake school superintendent, that donkey basketball “...raises concern and controversy every year in many districts across the country.”

 “As many enjoy the fun of a silly game, others are concerned about the welfare of the animals involved,” Holmes writes. “As responsible adults, parents and teachers we need to take the lead and guide properly our next generations, making sure they receive the proper messages and examples from us.”

 Witt confirmed receiving the letter but declined to comment further.

Northwood officials are considering a proposal to expand Community Reinvestment Areas (CRAs) throughout most of the city as an economic development tool.

“We’re going to explore some changes to our CRAs,” said Councilman Dave Gallaher at a council meeting on Thursday. “We have a CRA on the east and west sides of town that primarily encompasses the commercial districts. We’re going to look at possibly including some property in the center of town that would actually at some time in the future connect both of those CRAs.”

Genoa village officials hope to re-energize support to make the village’s leg of the North Coast Inland Trail a reality.

“The North Coast Inland Trail idea started in Genoa. It would be a kick in the pants if we can’t get our section of it done,” Village Administrator Kevin Gladden said.

An assisted living facility for seniors is being planned on a 13-acre site at the southeast corner of Seaman Road and South Coy Road in Oregon.

AlcoreSenior, LLC, the developer of the project, located in Columbus, proposes to develop, own and operate, though an affiliate, a campus for seniors that will include 10-20 independent living units located either in ranch style bungalows or a multi-family building, and a 60-80 unit licensed assisted living/memory care center of approximately 45,000 square feet.
