Dan Wilczynski, who forfeited his seat as Walbridge Mayor in January, has pulled petitions to run for the mayor’s post again.

The Wood County Board of Elections said that Wilczynski, of 502 E. Perry St., and current Walbridge Mayor Ed Kolanko, of 212 Parkview Dr., as of Wednesday pulled petitions for mayor. The deadline to submit completed petitions to the board is August 7 at 4 p.m.

 Due to recent storms, the Village of Pemberville has scheduled a special pick-up of brush for July 1.
 Residents are asked to have brush at the curb by 7 a.m.


 Several village businesses are participating in a fundraiser June 29 to support the efforts of the Walbridge Centennial Committee.
 From 4-8 p.m. Susie’s Skillet will donate 10 percent of the restaurant’s sales to the committee.
 Registration for a “pub crawl” will be held from 7:30-8:30 p.m. at the Walbridge Nite Club. There is a $5 fee to register.
 Graffitti shirts will be available for purchase at the club and there will be games and raffles there as well as at the next stops on the crawl: Three Cheers, from 9:30-11 p.m, and Nick and Nancy’s Tap Room, from 11 p.m. to 1 a.m.
 Proceeds will be used to pay for July 4 festivities at Loop Park.

Zoning issues in Lake and Woodville townships will be the subject this month of hearings.

An application to rezone a 1.23-acre parcel in Lake Township from agricultural to light industrial is on the agenda of the July 2 meeting of the Wood County Planning Commission.

The applicants would like to use the property, located at the southeast corner of Walbridge and E. Broadway, to house storage tanks which will be used in the recycling of biodegradable oils for restaurant use.

After over 100 hours of surveying, Clay High School environmental science and biology teacher Dennis Slotnick says no evidence exists that the school’s wind turbine poses a threat to wildlife.

Slotnick said Ohio Department of Natural Resource protocols were used for the bird kill searches at the two Eisenhower turbines and the Clay turbine.

So far, only one red bat was found under the turbine last November. Slotnick says an independent searcher from the University of Toledo along with Clay students have found zero bird kills.
