Fire chief honored; new station days away from opening

Allen-Clay Joint Fire District Chief Bruce Moritz revels in two major achievements he helped bring about during his term as president of the Ohio Fire Chiefs’ Association.

The first, which has been in the works for years, is the upcoming merger of a medical transportation board to oversee both private and public ambulance services. The other is the creation of an educational class that will guide the heads of departments.

 
Northwood to press its case against owner of mall

A hearing will be held on Thursday in the Wood County Court of Common Pleas on Northwood’s efforts to get the owners of the Woodville Mall to tear down the dilapidated structure.

“The court has to decide that the mall is a nuisance, and that it’s a hazard to public health and safety,” said City Administrator Bob Anderson. “People are breaking in, there’s broken glass. It’s dangerous. We’re asking the court to grant us relief by ordering the owner to abate the nuisance. At this stage, it almost means demolishing it.”

 
Dustin Rd. Phase 2 improvements to start Monday

Phase 2 of the Dustin Road improvement project will begin on Monday, August 12.

The project replaces the existing deteriorated concrete pavement on Dustin Road, where numerous businesses are located in the busy commercial district.
