Less than a week after the fire departments of Lake and Jerusalem townships held a joint training session with an all-terrain vehicle along Lake Erie, the vehicle played a vital role in an emergency situation on the frozen lake.

Lake Township Fire Chief Bruce Moritz said his department’s Argo vehicle - which can be equipped with wheels or tracks and can float - was used Feb. 17 to rescue a man from the lake who became disoriented looking for his two lost sons.

Oregon plans on making a number of improvements to Navarre Avenue (State Route 2) based on an Access Management Study conducted in 2012 that examined the safety of vehicles pulling out of businesses onto the busy thoroughfare.

Although the $2,718,327 Navarre Avenue safety project is in the design phase, it is scheduled to be completed in May 2016.

 Saying he’s been emboldened by “tremendous” support from his constituents, State Representative Rex Damschroder (R- Fremont) will have his wife, Rhonda, run as a write-in candidate in the May 6 primary election as a placeholder for him on the ballot.
 If she were to win the nomination, she would then withdraw from the race which would allow party officials in the 88th House district to put his name on the ballot for the November general election.
 Rep. Damschroder was forced to withdraw from the race after the Sandusky County Board of Elections discovered he hadn’t signed some of his candidate petitions.

Energy is fueling a $1.94 billion fire that could ignite our economy this year and in the near future.progressbutton2014

That gaudy number reflects the upcoming investments in our community from four energy companies: First Energy, BP-Husky Refinery, PBF Refinery and Clean Energy. Those investments are:

• First Energy announced two weeks ago it would invest $600 million to upgrade the Davis Besse nuclear power plant near Oak Harbor;

• PBF Energy, owner of the former Sunoco Refinery, announced in December it would invest $140 million in the next 15 months to upgrade its 282-acre refinery on the Toledo-Oregon border;

• BP-Husky Refinery in the spring announced it would soon start its $400 million project to enable it to refine sour crude from the Husky oil sands in Alberta, Canada;
