 By late spring or early summer equipment will be moving onto the former Brush Beryllium plant site near the Village of Luckey to begin what will be a multi-year remediation project.

 Stephen Buechi, project manager for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, said Tuesday he expects actual work to remove contaminated soil and debris to start by late summer.  

Oregon City Council Monday approved a resolution opposing a state proposal to transfer the collection of municipal business taxes from local governments to the Ohio Department of Taxation. 
Ohio Gov. John Kasich has proposed in his 2017-18 budget a requirement for centralized collection of municipal business taxes by the Ohio Department of Taxation. If passed, it becomes effective on January 1, 2018.

State Representative Michael P. Sheehy (House District 46) is co-sponsoring legislation that would require at least two individuals to operate a freight train in Ohio, which he hopes will reduce fatal accidents.
The proposed legislation, known as House Bill 107, recently received its first hearing in the Ohio House. Sheehy and State Representative Michele Lepore-Hagan (D-Youngstown) are co-sponsors of the bill.

Oregon is considering a change in its city charter to avoid possible conflicts with state and federal election laws.
City Administrator Mike Beazley said the timing of primary elections in September, in particular, could pose problems if the dates are not changed.

The Northwestern Water and Sewer District received low interest loans from the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency for a sanitary sewer rehabilitation project in the Millbury service area, and a project to inspect several miles of pipe in the Toledo service area.
The $1.125 million rehabilitation project, scheduled to start next month, will help reduce the amount of storm water entering the sewage collection systems through infiltration and inflow (I&I). Presently, the I&I increases sewage flows beyond the capacity of the collection and treatment systems, which can cause basement backups in the service area as well as releases of untreated sewage from the wastewater treatment plant, according to Dina Pierce, an Ohio EPA spokesperson.
