Athletic director’s job description didn’t include this

A lot of things aren’t written into a high school athletic director’s job description.

One of them is breaking up a “disagreement” in the stands between students and/or alleged adults.

Terry Reeves, a lifelong Oregon resident who is in serving his fourth term on Oregon City Council, is in his fifth year as the athletic director at Bowsher.

A meeting to discuss plans for the Second Chance House project will be held March 18 at 4:30 p.m. at the Ida Rupp Library in Port Clinton.

Ottawa County Common Pleas Court Judge Bruce Winters is leading the effort to improve services for men with alcohol and drug addition problems.

A group of community and religious leaders, addiction experts and criminal justice professionals has been meeting to address problems the men face.

Judge Winters said the group hopes to include more social service agencies for support and assistance in launching the program, which will be funded by local churches, civic organizations and community members.

The Oak Harbor High School Mixed Choir will host the Otterbein University Concert Choir in a joint performance March 15 at 7 p.m. in the high school theater.

The concert is free and open to the public. A free-will offering will be taken after the performance to assist with the university choir's touring expenses. The choir is on a week-long performance tour of Ohio, Indiana and Illinois.

The Village of Oak Harbor is looking for a new administrator and plenty of people want the job.

Mayor Bill Eberle said 70 applications had been received as of the Feb. 28 application deadline for the position recently vacated by Robert Pauley. Pauley, who had held the position since 2009, left unexpectedly in mid- February.

Eberle said he will review resumes to weed out the first wave of candidates.

“A lot of them are health care people looking for work,” he told council during the mayor’s report portion of Monday night’s regular Oak Harbor Village Council meeting.

The Harris Township trustees plan to have sufficient personnel hired by early April to provide 24-hour emergency medical service in the township and Village of Elmore.

Carol Baker, a township trustee, said last week the board of trustees has hired more part-time emergency medical workers to ease the burden on a pool of volunteers whose ranks have been dropping.

Voters in the village and township last November approved a 4.5-mill, 5-year property tax levy to fund additional emergency medical service. Annually, the levy is expected to generate $289,500, according to figures compiled by the Ottawa County auditor’s office.
