A resolution that authorizes the Lake Township trustees to remove junk vehicles from private and public property was introduced during the trustees meeting last week.

The resolution defines a junk motor vehicle as being at least three model years old, apparently inoperable, and extensively damaged, including missing wheels, tires, engine, or transmission.

Richard Welling, a trustee, said changes in the Ohio Revised Code that went into effect earlier this year allow townships more authority for addressing the problem of junk vehicles.

The Oregon City Schools board this month decided against a proposal that would have offered a graduation guarantee to Clay High School students.

The proposal, introduced by School Board vice president Jeff Ziviski, would have guaranteed that students who graduate and who have passed the Ohio Graduation Test (OGT), are capable of meeting Ohio academic standards as measured by the OGT in reading, writing, math, science and social studies.

Clay High School alumnus Don Von Tress (’66), who served in the 101st Airborne Division in Vietnam, has answered the call of assistance for the Oregon Vietnam Memorial Project from his home in Tennessee.

Von Tress is a twice-nominated Grammy Award songwriter. He is credited with writing the words to Billy Ray Cyrus’ 1992 mega hit Achy Breaky Heart.
