A female Oregon police sergeant has filed a lawsuit in the Lucas County Court of Common Pleas against the City of Oregon, the Oregon police department, Mayor Marge Brown, and Police Chief Richard Stager for alleged sex discrimination and retaliation for her deposition in a lawsuit filed by a female officer against the city for sex discrimination in 2004.

Kelly Thibert, who has been an Oregon police officer since March, 1993, alleges that Stager and Brown “acted with reckless disregard” for her rights, according to the lawsuit.

The Lake Township trustees Tuesday approved a resolution asking the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency and attorney general to investigate operating permit violations at the landfill operated by Envirosafe Services of Ohio in Oregon.

The resolution also asks the state to provide direct oversight in the monitoring of underground raw water lines to Toledo that run through the landfill property.

Oregon has informed the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency that it is not violating laws that prohibit drilling wells in the right-of-way to monitor off-site contamination near Envirosafe Services of Ohio, Inc.

The Ohio EPA informed the city that it cannot install monitoring wells adjacent to Envirosafe on Otter Creek Road because a law prohibits drilling within 300 feet of hazardous and solid waste facilities if it is likely to impact the integrity of waste placement or any ancillary structures.

Once again, Russell Lamp in on the trail of the Paravespula germanica and the Paravespula maculifrons.

Mr.  Lamp, an area entomologist, is again on the hunt for active yellowjacket colonies to find a source of venom for pharmaceutical firms which manufacture vaccines.

The Eastern yellowjacket (maculifrons) is one of the smaller yellowjackets - and one of the nastier types, he said last week.
