Calling cake bakers - contest set at Portage River Festival

The Elmore Historical Society will sponsor its first-ever cake contest in conjunction with the Portage River Festival on Sunday, June 27

Categories include fruit (filled or topped), non-frosted (glazed or sugared), frosted (icing: cream cheese or buttercream – no fondant) or decorated (with frosting, no character cakes).

All cakes and frosting must be made from scratch. No box cakes or canned frosting will be accepted. Cakes must be either 9-inch round or less; square 8 inches or less; or rectangle 9 x 13 or less. Layered cakes must not be over two layers high.

Judges will not accept any cakes that need to be refrigerated, nor any cupcakes, cheesecakes or coffeecakes. Fillings and frostings must not be custard, whipped or marshmallow.

 
Lake High School bricks for sale Thurs. & Fri.

Thursday and Friday from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., Lake High School students and alumni can take home a little piece of history.


Bricks from the high school will be sold for $10 by the elementary school playground. All proceeds go to the "Rebuild Lake Schools" fund.


Special T-shirts Designed by Roy Hutcheison, a Lake alumnus, will also be sold. The shirts were designed in the theme of the 2010 class motto and feature:

Live for Today

A community comes together

Dream for tomorrow

We won't be stopped

They are available for $10 for sizes S-XL and $11 for XXL. Proceeds from shirt sales will benefit the Lake athletic department. Call Hutcheison at 419-343-1526 to inquire about shirts.

 
Garage & Bake Sale fundraiser June 18-20 at Samsen's

A garage and bake sale will be held June 18-20 from a.m. to 4 p.m. each day at Samsen's Furniture, 22225 Woodville Road, Genoa. All proceeds will be given directly to the families affected by the tornado.
