Oregon will consider amending its municipal code on planning and zoning to adequately provide notice to the public on applications for zoning actions involving a change in property use and to clarify the manner of providing the notice.

Changes to the notice were recommended by the Oregon Planning Commission during its review of the 2025 Master Plan, including a recommendation to post notice on properties requesting a zoning change, Oregon Administrator Ken Filipiak said at a committee of the whole meeting last Monday.

Oregon council on Monday will consider approving a two year contract with the Independent Umpires Association to officiate athletic events scheduled by the Oregon Parks and Recreation Department.

Five to be inducted as Distinguished Waite Alumni
Morrison R. Waite High School is celebrating its 95th annual year as an educational institution serving students in East Toledo.

When the federal government’s economic stimulus plan becomes law, water quality programs are expected to receive supplemental funding, Chris Korleski, director of the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency, writes in a letter to mayors, county commissioners, and other officials.

“Federal officials have informed us that the ability to implement projects rapidly will be an important criterion for the use of these funds,” he writes. “In the event the plan becomes law, we are preparing a list of potential …applicants to pave the way for the distribution of Ohio stimulus funds to projects such as wastewater, stormwater, green infrastructure, stream restoration, and others.”

Outlook good for fishing in Lake Erie, state says

Lake Erie anglers should experience quality fishing during 2009, according to biologists with the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) Division of Wildlife.

“Over the years, Lake Erie has consistently provided some of the best fishing in the country,” said Roger Knight, Lake Erie fisheries program manager at ODNR,” We expect 2009 to be no different.”
