Oregon Council amended its zoning code to allow commercial service to parked automobiles so that a Sonic Drive-in Restaurant could be built on Navarre Avenue.

“What we’re doing is taking out a line that states services cannot be made to parked automobiles,” said Mayor Marge Brown at a council meeting last Monday.

There is no question that the recent disastrous events plaguing Wall Street and other segments of our economy are spilling over into broad areas of U.S. life.

Many people feel that the worst is yet to come. With continued job losses, manufacturers and dealerships closing, and retirement plans shaky or destroyed, it is easy to see that the list of citizens feeling the pain is endless. We have to ask, “Where was the oversight of these investment firms?” Countless questions remain unanswered as financial crooks get away with legal larceny.

A group of men from the United Methodist Church have a habit of making sure everyone in Northwest Ohio and Southeast Michigan has food on their table.

The Maumee Watershed District United Methodist Men (members are from Fulton, Lucas, Henry, Wood, and portions of Ottawa, Sandusky, and Seneca counties) spend their weekends gleaning available crops from Northwest Ohio farm fields.

At the invitation of growers, gleaners work fields and orchards, harvesting the unpicked produce which is distributed to food banks, food pantries, soup kitchens, and other charities where there has been a growing need.

Alexis Donnelly felt a little bit strange two days after a head-to-head collision she had during Clay's season-opening soccer match against Anthony Wayne.

Donnelly, a sophomore striker for Coach Scott Wamer's Eagles, played Perrysburg 48 hours after the Anthony Wayne match and she knew something wasn't right.

"I started the game and my legs started to feel heavy and I felt weak and was having really bad headaches," Donnelly recalled. "I had to hold my head up during the game. I was starting to freak out. I had Wamer pull me out of the game. I couldn't handle it."

Humane Ohio, a low cost spay and neuter clinic, will continue its efforts to spay and neuter cats in East Toledo.

The non-profit group, which came to East Toledo earlier this year to fix cats for $25 each, will, head to the East Toledo Family Center, the drop-off site for cat owners, through December. The group will then transport the felines to the clinic, 5333 Secor Rd, between W. Laskey and Alexis roads, for the surgical procedure.
