Rising property tax delinquencies and fewer dollars from federal programs have more than offset spending cuts the Gibsonburg school board implemented last summer.

Superintendent Tom Peiffer reports in the district newsletter, The Bear Facts, that the district has spent $337,292 less as of Jan. 31 this year compared to Jan. 31, 2008.

The Eastwood school board has scheduled a special meeting for March 10 at 7:30 a.m. to discuss a proposed bond issue.

Superintendent Brent Welker said he will have an official statement on any board action after the meeting.

The board recently agreed to seek voter approval of a bond issue to fund the local share of construction costs for a new elementary school at the central campus.

A meeting to gather input from the public about the costs incurred during rescues of stranded ice fishermen has been scheduled for March 12 at 6 p.m. at the Ottawa County Emergency Management Center in Port Clinton.

Ottawa County Sheriff Bob Bratton said he’s planned the meeting to hear from representatives of fishing organizations and individual ice fishermen on the cost issue.

A public hearing on a proposed Joint Economic Development District is scheduled for April 7 at 7 p.m. at the Lake Township administration building, 27975 Cummings Rd.

The township and City of Toledo have completed a tentative agreement to form the JEDD at city-owned property at Metcalf Field in the township.

Oregon Council last month approved the purchase of 500 tons of road salt from Cargill Inc., and $500 tons from North American Salt Company at vastly different prices.

Public Service Director Paul Roman said he was going to purchase 1,000 tons from North American at $89.36 per ton, but later learned that Cargill would provide road salt for $65 per ton.
