A request for a new special use permit for a proposed convenience store at Seaman Street and Van Buren Avenue in East Toledo has run into some opposition by neighbors who fear it will become a hangout for rowdy youths.

Adjacent to, and immediately west of the proposed store, is Ravine Park Village, a public housing project.

Oregon City Council last week approved additional engineering services by Poggemeyer Design Group, Inc., for the Pearson Park bike connector.

On June 11, 2001, a $56,701 contract was awarded to Poggemeyer to provide professional engineering services for “Various Bikeway Projects,” including the Stadium Road Bikeway, phase I, the Municipal Complex Connector, phase I, and the Pearson Park connector.

Community leaders say a new identity for East Toledo could be the answer to jump-starting a nearby historic business district and that surrounding neighborhoods that will be adjacent to the proposed Marina District development.

That’s partly what is being recommended from the Connecting the Pieces Final Plan for the Garfield Neighborhood and Main/Starr Business District.

A sanitary sewer rehabilitation project in Oregon is expected to occur in several phases, according to Oregon Public Service Director Paul Roman.

The Ohio Public Works Commission (OPWC) provided a $200,000 loan with no interest to the city for phase I of the sewer rehabilitation project. The target area is the Wheeling trunk sewer service area.

The Wood County Sheriff’s Department is again asking for information about a missing Pemberville-area woman.

Detective Jamie Webb is seeking information about Sheila Main, who was reported missing in August, 2006 and is focusing on a call to the Oregon Police Department on Aug. 17 at around 4:30 p.m. about a disabled vehicle in the northern part of the city.
