Oregon will consider amending its municipal code on planning and zoning to adequately provide notice to the public on applications for zoning actions involving a change in property use and to clarify the manner of providing the notice.

Changes to the notice were recommended by the Oregon Planning Commission during its review of the 2025 Master Plan, including a recommendation to post notice on properties requesting a zoning change, Oregon Administrator Ken Filipiak said at a committee of the whole meeting last Monday.

Oregon will get $24,000 from a settlement agreement that the U.S. EPA reached with Marsulex and two other manufacturers of sulfuric acid for allegedly violating the Clean Air Act.

Chemtrade Logistics, and Chemtrade Refinery Services were also fined for allegedly violating the Clean Air Act.

All three companies will pay a civil penalty of $700,000 under the Clean Air Act settlement.

Oregon City Council on Monday will consider approving an agreement with Sudsina & Associates, LLC, for the development of a financial debt and general reserve policy for the city.

If approved, the city will pay Sudsina $7,500 to develop the policy.

A financial debt and general reserve policy would help account for and manage public resources wisely, according to Administrator Ken Filipiak.

The Ohio Environmental Council is calling for the federal government to enact strong ballast water legislation, citing a recent U.S. Environmental Protection Agency report that identifies areas of the Great Lakes most vulnerable to the entry of aquatic nonindigenous species.

The report, Predicting Future Introductions of Nonindigenous Species to the Great Lakes, notes that the port of Toledo is one of several Lake Erie ports at great risk for future invasion by the species via transoceanic shipping.
