Oregon to identify illegal sewer connections

Oregon will be sending out notices to property owners who illegally connect sump pumps and downspouts to sanitary sewers in an attempt to address inflow and infiltration (I&I) issues that have caused flooding after heavy rain.
 
“I will be sending out violation notices to a lot of people who have illegal connections,” said Public Service Director Paul Roman.

 
Local projects could get funds from stimulus bill

Local communities have prepared a list of shovel-ready projects they hope will get funding from the federal stimulus bill recently passed by Congress. Officials have only a couple of weeks to submit the projects to state officials, who will decide which communities will get the millions of dollars allocated for infrastructure improvements.

Northwood’s list includes road resurfacing and intersection improvements, according to Administrator Pat Bacon. The projects include an intersection improvement at Bradner and Curtice roads. Concrete abutments at the intersection make it difficult for vehicles to turn at the intersection.

 
Bus driver wants graffiti removed from underpass

Several times a day, Sandy Krytus, a bus driver for Northwood Local Schools, dreads driving by the  CSX railroad underpass on Woodville Road.

That’s because the underpass, located in Oregon, has become an eyesore.

“There’s gang symbols and profanity spray painted out there,” she said. And old tires, she added, are strewn on the sidewalk.
