The Ottawa County commissioners are asking for a two-year delay to the planned closing of a Bureau of Motor Vehicle office in Oak Harbor and would like to see a request by the county clerk of courts to open a title office at the Oak Harbor site be granted.
 
The commissioners are challenging the projected cost savings the Ohio Bureau of Motor Vehicles claims it will realize by closing the office and are asking the bureau’s parent department, the Ohio Department of Public Safety, to conduct an analysis that weighs the cost savings for the state with the increased cost to customers and the economic impact on area communities.

The developer of a planned subdivision, The Bungalows at Pearson Park, is seeking an extension on the site’s zoning approval for three years due to the poor economy.
 
Oregon City Council at a committee of the whole meeting on Monday voted to add the request to next Monday’s council agenda.
 
The Oregon Planning Commission on Feb. 21, 2006, had unanimously approved a zoning change of the property, on the north side of Navarre Avenue, east of Wynn Road, to R-4 Planned Unit Development from R-1 Single Family.  City council in March of that year approved the zoning change request by a vote of 5-2.

After a 30-minute executive session Tuesday, the Lake Township trustees approved a motion to back out of an agreement to purchase acreage near the corner of Walbridge and Lemoyne roads they had hoped could be used to expand the township cemetery.
 
The trustees agreed to send a letter to the property owners to end the deal and seek a refund of a $10,000 down payment.
 
Richard Welling, a trustee, said “perpetual easements” on the property would essentially prevent the township from expanding the cemetery to the site.

Emergency help offered
WSOS Community Action Inc., has announced that new funding for emergency food and shelter programs is available to Sandusky County organizations that provide emergency food and shelter programs.

A total of $56,747 has been awarded to Sandusky County by the Emergency Food and Shelter National Board, which is chaired by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), to supplement emergency food and shelter programs in the county. WSOS distributes the funds locally.

The Oregon City Schools District will be replacing its current T1 Internet connections with a new fiber network that will connect all of the Oregon City Schools to Clay High School.

If the engineering, permitting and building processes go as planned, the fiber network will be in place for the 2009-2010 school year, according to Nathan Quigg, the district’s technology director.
