In Genoa - Board considering more spending cuts

More proposed spending cuts may be implemented this week by the Genoa school board, according to the district treasurer.

Board members in a special session last Monday discussed additional spending reductions proposed by the administration but will likely take action on the recommendations during this week’s regular meeting, Bill Nye said, adding the district is trying to position itself to avert a projected deficit by the end of fiscal year 2011.

 
Mayor wants to recognize veterans

Walbridge Mayor Dan Wilczynski is asking for families and friends of military personnel who’ve served in Iraq and Afghanistan to contact the village with the names of the personnel so they can be recognized for their service.

The mayor said a local woman recently told him about her fiancé, an Army specialist who will be returning from duty in Iraq, and asked him whether there could be some show of community support for the returning service men and women.

 
Still time to get flood insurance at lower rates

The Federal Insurance Management Agency (FEMA) will hold an open house on Monday, April 27, from 3:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. in the Grand Lobby of MLK Plaza on the third floor of the old Amtrak Train Station to present new preliminary digital flood insurance rate maps for Lucas County.

Officials from FEMA and the Ohio Department of Natural Resources will be on hand to answer questions from the public.
