Just two months after Jerusalem Township Trustees Joe Gray and Rodney Graffis eliminated reimbursement of training costs for elected officials to save money, Gray and Graffis agreed to reimburse a part-time trustees’ assistant to attend a zoning seminar.

Karen Rogalski will get reimbursed by the township for out-of-town training costs.

Rogalski, who retired as assistant to the trustees last December, was rehired recently by Gray and Graffis. Rogalski had retired because she was eligible to receive her Public Employees Retirement System (PERS).

Oregon Councilman Mike Seferian has taken out petitions to run for the mayor’s office this November.

“As a councilman, I’m more administratively bound,” said Seferian, who ran for mayor in 2001, but lost to Marge Brown. “The mayor orchestrates what happens now. Sometimes I may overextend my bounds as a councilman and actually want to be an administrator instead of a legislator. I really think that’s more of who I am.”

Seferian has been on council for nine terms. The experience has made him more prepared to  be mayor, he said.

The Ohio State Legislature last week approved a bill to combat the housing foreclosure crisis.

The Home Foreclosure Prevention Bill places a moratorium on home foreclosures and provides reasonable solutions that would allow families to have the opportunity to save their homes, according to State Rep. Matt Szollosi (D. Toledo), speaker pro tempore.

“Lucas County has the second highest rate of foreclosure in the state, up 15 percent last year,”said Szollosi. “This bill will help keep families in their homes.”

Last Monday morning, Barbara Locker, of Eastpointe, couldn’t help noticing the ruckus her dog was making in one corner of her yard.

“He was back there barking, and I saw a female duck pacing back and forth on the other side or our fence, just carrying on terribly,” said Locker, who has lived in her Eastpointe home with her husband for 18 years.

Ducks like to hang out in her neighbor’s pool on occasion, she said.

Members of the Genoa school board plan to appoint a committee to meet with the district’s coaches and administrators and discuss the formation of a new league for the 2011-12 school year.

Superintendent Dennis Mock said the board has tentatively agreed to join with four other members of the Suburban Lakes League - Otsego, Lake, Woodmore, and Eastwood – and form a league that also includes Rossford.

The Rossford school board last week approved a resolution showing “its serious intent to join a newly-formed league with Otsego, Lake, Genoa, and Eastwood schools at this time,” said Lisa Spotts, a spokesperson for the administration.
