Woodmore High students pledge not to text and drive

Texting and driving is a big “NO!”

Today more and more people rely on their cell phones. Additionally, the more that people become dependent on their phones, the more dangerous the roads get. Teens generally make excuses as to why they use their phones to text and drive such as, “It was important,” and “I had to text my mom.”

Genoa hikes utility-related fees

The Village of Genoa has increased rates associated with three of its utilities.

Administrator Kevin Gladden said increasing costs of doing business were the reason for the hikes, adding they were needed to keep systems on track financially.

Ordinances passed last week by village council increased the sewer permit and application process from $600 to $1,200 and the rate for underground electric tap-in and storm sewer tap-in each from $200 to $400. The new rates take effect 30 days from the time of passage.

Walbridge-Mayor welcomes legal opinion on chief, administrator posts

A recent opinion of the Ohio Attorney General’s office that one person may simultaneously hold the positions of police chief and administrator was expected by Walbridge mayor Ed Kolanko, who repeated his confidence in Ken Frost, the man currently holding both posts.

“I’m very happy the ruling came out as I expected,” the mayor said. “It was one thing I’m confident we were doing correctly and that’s been affirmed by the AG ruling.
