“Gone fishin'’” – that was the status of a contingent of Genoa Care Center residents one recent Thursday morning.

Doctor needed on county health board
The Wood County District Advisory Council is looking for a county physician to serve on the board of health. Board members must live in the county and may not hold an elected office. Members are appointed for a five-year term.

State law requires at least one member of the board to be a licensed medical professional who is either an MD (Doctor of Medicine) or a DO (Doctor of Osteopathy). Interested physicians may contact the Health Commissioner, Pamela Butler, at 419-352-8402.

Oregon will see its budget revenue drop by $2 million in the next couple of years as a result of the continuing economic recession and cuts in the state budget. But not to worry. Through attrition, the city is confident it will keep expenses in check.

“We have a good cooperative relationship with our employees,” said City Administrator Mike Beazley. “We have to find ways to make sure we deliver excellent services with a smaller government. We can get smaller by not filling vacancies and being more efficient. It’s something the private and public sectors are going through together. It’s not a real surprise.”

Oregon City Council last Monday unanimously approved a contract with the Oregon Police Patrolmen’s Association (OPPA) that does not include wage increases.

The contract period is from July 1, 2011 through June 30, 2014.

A meeting of the Drainage, Roads, Buildings and Lands Committee will be held at the Oregon municipal building at 7 p.m. on Aug. 22 to discuss installing sidewalks along Navarre Avenue from Coy to Lallendorf roads.

“I think it’s appropriate that we are responsive to our citizens who are calling for sidewalks,” Councilman Doug Walendzak, chairman of the committee, said at a council meeting on Aug. 8. Walendzak said notices on the matter have already been mailed to affected property owners.
