In its Oct. 17 and Oct. 24 editions, The Press published its Voters’ Guide for the November 8 General Election that included candidate profiles in Northwood and Oregon. In the Oct. 24 edition of The Press, Oregon city council and school board candidates answered a series of questions posed by The Press regarding issues facing the community. The Voters’ Guide published seven of eight Oregon city council candidates’ answers to the questions. The answers of Mike Sheehy, an incumbent councilman who is also president of council, were accidentally omitted. The Press regrets the error. Here are Sheehy’s answers to the questions:

Oregon City Council will hold a public hearing at 8 p.m. on Nov. 18 in council chambers on Seaman Road on a request for a Special Use Permit for outside storage of car dealership vehicles at 2200 Woodville Road.

The Oregon Planning Commission at a meeting last month recommended approval, with some specifications.

New sheriff sets administrative staff
Ottawa County Sheriff Stephen Levorchick has appointed Jeffrey Hickman to be Chief Deputy and Brad York to the Captain of Operations position.

The sheriff said Hickman, who has more than 30 years of law enforcement experience, is an asset to the community and department and is able to work “with the public as well as the sheriff’s office staff.”

For generations it was the hub of a working farm.

In the future, its beams will frame a new structure in Vermont.

The dismantling of a 130-year-old barn on Lemoyne Road in Northwood was completed earlier this month, says Jim Intagliata, who purchased the property in June.

A recently completed agreement between the Benton-Carroll-Salem school board and the union representing the district’s teachers will save the district about $300,000, according to Rick Bast, board president.

The new contract includes a roll-back of 2.5 percent on the teachers’ base salary and increases the teachers’ insurance contribution to 15 percent.
