The treasurer of the Oregon City Schools District has projected a 3-percent drop in revenues over the next five years.

Treasurer Jane Fruth at a school board meeting last week gave an update in the district’s five-year forecast, which projects a drop in state foundation funding, property taxes, and electric deregulation funds.

The Lake Township Ageless Wonders will get together at the Lake Township Hall for a potluck lunch Oct. 13.

The noon gathering will be a “homecoming” of sorts for the group, comprised of seniors from the Lake Township and surrounding area.

Phosphorus reduction recommendations coming
Recommendations on further reducing the impact of dissolved phosphorus on Ohio’s waterways will be presented to Gov. John Kasich by Feb. 1, says Scott McNally, director of the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency.

Officials from the Ohio EPA and departments of agriculture and natural resources met last week at Maumee Bay State Park to discuss on-going efforts to reduce agriculture-related phosphorus from reaching the western basin.

Agency has new administrator


David Wigent, of Bryan, has been selected by the Wood County Commissioners to fill the administrator vacancy at the Wood County Department of Job and Family Services, effective Oct. 10.

Wigent has served as the assistant administrator at the agency since June 2005. He replaces Paulette Stephens who is retiring at the end of October.

Ottawa County residents short on cash have a new opportunity for a variety of assistance programs.

More than $500,000 has been released to Ottawa County for two Community Development Block Grant programs under its direction, according to Todd Bickley, Ottawa Regional Planning Commission director. A sum of $342,000 has been put aside for the Home Investment Partnerships Program and another $180,000 for the Community Housing Improvement Program.
