As of Friday morning, detectives with the Lucas County Sheriff’s Department weren’t releasing the names of the man and woman involved in a shooting Thursday at 11214 Bunting Road in Jerusalem Township.

But a detective did confirm the shooting occurred before sheriff’s deputies arrived and the two had head wounds.

Both were transported by ambulance to St. Vincent Medical Center.

The Ottawa County Board of Commissioners has accepted a letter of retirement from Don Waggoner, the county’s chief building inspector.

His retirement will go into effect March 31.

Meeting change

The regular board meeting of the Benton-Carroll-Salem Board of Education will be March 20 at 6 p.m. The board has changed the place of the meeting to the media center of Oak Harbor High School, 11681 W. SR 163, Oak Harbor.

The Woodmore school board is accepting letters of interest from district residents to fill a vacancy on the board created when member Chad Bringman submitted his resignation.

While Bringman is stepping down from the board, his wife, Linda, was issued a contract to be the school district’s next superintendent.

The Ohio Sixth District Court of Appeals has upheld a lower court ruling that the Oregon Career & Technology Center did not violate the Ohio Consumer Sales Practices Act as contended by 12 students enrolled in the center’s Green Energy Program.

The students filed a lawsuit in December 2009 against the center, alleging its Green Energy, Electrical & Environmental Specialist adult education program was fraught with poor facilities, incompetent instructors, lack of instruction on promised curriculum, a lack of hands-on training, and there was no job shadowing as promised.

Former Ottawa County Sheriff Bob Bratton said Thursday he accepts full responsibility for not properly accounting for expenditures from the department’s Furtherance of Justice Fund but says he felt blindsided by the press release issued by state auditor David Yost which portrayed Bratton as spending more than $9,000 on personal items.

In May 2011, during the county’s routine financial audit, state examiners reviewing the sheriff’s office use of FOJ fund found purchases for medications and Cedar Point Amusement Park season passes. That triggered an examination by a special audit task force that expanded the scope of audit into all FOJ expenditures.
