In last week’s article about Academy Games, the company founder’s name was spelled wrong. His name is Uwe Eickert. Volgograd, not Logograd, is formerly known as Stalingrad, the site of one of the most important and famous battles of World War II.  In addition, the Eickert Scissors manufacturing company did not go out of business. It was sold to Jarden Corporation which moved its operations to their McMinnville, Tenn. facilities where the business is still in existence. The Press regrets the errors.

The fate of Walbridge Elementary School and the jobs of more than 20 employees of the Lake Local School District will be decided Wednesday night when the school board votes on a proposed austerity plan aimed at reducing spending by just under $1.2 million.

Treasurer Jeff Carpenter said the loss of revenues from the state and a loss of local property tax revenues due to lower valuations are putting a tight squeeze on the district’s operating funds.

Regional Growth Partnership Director Dean Monske says there are reasons foreign investors want to bring their families and business operations to Toledo.

“Why Toledo? Because this is a great spot,” Monske said in a presentation to the East Toledo Club during a monthly luncheon at the Weber Block. “They can protect their capital anywhere — New York, L.A., maybe Boston.

As of Friday morning, detectives with the Lucas County Sheriff’s Department weren’t releasing the names of the man and woman involved in a shooting Thursday at 11214 Bunting Road in Jerusalem Township.

But a detective did confirm the shooting occurred before sheriff’s deputies arrived and the two had head wounds.

Both were transported by ambulance to St. Vincent Medical Center.

Building chief retiring
The Ottawa County Board of Commissioners has accepted a letter of retirement from Don Waggoner, the county’s chief building inspector.

His retirement will go into effect March 31.

Meeting change

The regular board meeting of the Benton-Carroll-Salem Board of Education will be March 20 at 6 p.m. The board has changed the place of the meeting to the media center of Oak Harbor High School, 11681 W. SR 163, Oak Harbor.
