Mall owners say city ignored their demolition plan

An attorney for the owners of the Woodville Mall claims a court ordered demolition plan was submitted to the Northwood by the August deadline, but city officials ignored it.

Adam Burke, attorney for the mall owners, said the plan had actually been filed several days before the deadline.

“This is a land grab for the city,” Burke said in a prepared statement. “The owners cannot complete the demolition on the property without a city permit. And the city has blocked us at every turn.”

Ottawa County-Water rates will increase

The first increase in four years in rates charged by the Ottawa County regional water distribution system will go into effect Dec. 18.

The county commissioners approved increases in the monthly base and rate schedules during their Nov. 21 meeting.

Gino Monaco, administrator of the county’s sanitary engineering department, said several factors are behind the decision to increase rates.

Oregon-Tornado damaged houses, snapped trees, downed powerlines

Oregon residents last week were still cleaning up debris caused by a tornado that tore through the city at about 5:35 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 17.

There were reports of damage to multiple houses in several subdivisions, downed powerlines and uprooted trees.

The tornado was one of three that struck the area, according to the National Weather Service. The first twister started in Perrysburg at about 5:35 p.m., cut a 12 mile path into Oregon, where it ended at about 5:55 p.m. The width of the EF-2 tornado was 150-200 yards and had an estimated maximum wind of between 120-125 mph.
