Starr Elementary School will have solar panels on its rooftop this fall.
It’s the most recent effort by the Oregon City Schools district to cut utility costs with environmentally friendly “green energy.”
The school was chosen to receive the panels because its roof was replaced last year in anticipation of the project, according to Dean Sandwisch, the district’s business manager.

Lake High School students have one month remaining in their stay at “The Hangar.”
“The Hangar” is an affectionate term given by students for their temporary home at Owens Community College’s Development and Training building on Tracy Road in Northwood.
Students say the nickname fits because, like an airplane in storage, the 450 student-Flyers were moved into temporary storage until their new building is finished.

A recent traffic stop in Northwood led to the arrest of a suspect in a breaking and entering case of a Village of Walbridge residence dating back to November 2011.

The suspect, Joshua J. Baker, 21, was bound over last week to Wood County Common Pleas Court.

In announcing the arrest, Ken Frost, the village police chief, credited cooperation between his department and the Northwood, Lake Township, and Toledo departments and an agency in North Dakota where Baker had lived.

Oregon City Council has set a public hearing on April 23 in council chambers to consider a permanent Special Use Exemption in a non-agricultural area at 6338 Brown Rd. for the purpose of housing livestock.

The Planning Commission last April had recommended approval of a temporary SUE in an R-1 Low Density Residential District for the applicants and property owners, Mohamed Tawil and his wife Nabil.

The Tawils had initially requested to house two miniature ponies, four pheasants, four peacocks and 25 chickens at the site.

Oregon City Council last month approved a zoning change from R-5 Condo-Residential to C-5 Navarre Avenue Business District for a vacant parcel at 3851 Navarre Ave.

The Oregon Planning Commission on Feb. 21 had voted 3-0 to recommend that the zoning change be approved to make way for a commercial office building.

Plans call for the unidentified business to create 80-100 well-paying jobs at the 4.77 acre site.
