An unexpected trio of volunteers has stepped up to help organize the farmer’s market in Genoa.

Genoa High School agricultural teacher Dave Stacklin along with students Rachel Weber and Madison Sheahan have offered to run the farmer’s market on behalf of the village this year.

Jeff Carpenter, treasurer of the Lake Local School District, describes a recent annual meeting of Ohio School Business Officials in Columbus as a “tale of woe.”

“Everything geared around the loss of funding,” he said last week.

The Lake school board has agreed to again seek more local revenues, voting April 18 to place a 6.75-mill, 3-year operating levy on the August ballot.

Brad Fields, of East Toledo, has always wanted to give back to his community.

After going and growing through some personal issues, Fields decided to give back to his community and help area youth along the way.

The water tower at the edge of the village of Genoa is in need of repairs that could cost up to $30,000.

“They found some rust spots, nothing major, but they need to be taken care of to prevent further rusting,” said Genoa Village Administrator Kevin Gladden.
