Court bill finds solid support in Ohio House

A bill that would consolidate the judgeships of the Sandusky County courts in Clyde and Woodville was passed Tuesday in the Ohio House of Representatives by a vote of 96-0.

The Sandusky County Commissioners threw their support behind the bill after holding a special meeting Monday to hear comment on HB 433, which is sponsored by Rep. Rex Damschroder (R- Fremont).

The Ohio Wildlife Council approved hunting and trapping regulations for the 2012-13 hunting seasons, during the council’s April 4 meeting, according to the Ohio Department of Natural Resources Division of Wildlife.

Seven west-central Ohio counties will move from deer Zone A to Zone B; those counties are Auglaize, Darke, Mercer, Miami, Montgomery, Preble and Shelby. Madison County, currently in Zone B, will move to Zone A.

Northwood City Administrator Dennis Recker unexpectedly stepped down from his position on Monday after just 19 months on the job.

Mayor Mark Stoner confirmed Monday evening that Recker left for good earlier in the day, but had characterized his departure as a retirement rather than a resignation.

Two years away from celebrating its 100th anniversary, Morrison R. Waite High School is nearing the final stages of a $20 million renovation.

Next fall, students will walk into air conditioning. Renovation also includes paint, technology, lighting, electrical, windows, doors, and ceilings. American Disabilities Act improvements include elevators inside the four-story building. 

Jim Corbo, a readjustment therapist counselor with the Toledo Vet Center and a retired manager of mental health programs for the American Red Cross, will speak at the 79th Annual Memorial Day Flag Raising Ceremony sponsored by the East Toledo Club.

Due to a scheduling conflict, this year’s ceremony will be held at the Christ Dunberger Post instead of Pearson Park. The Post is located on Pickle and Wynn Roads in Oregon. The Honor Guard will present the colors on Monday, May 28 at 7:30 a.m. followed by a breakfast. The public is invited.
