The Woodmore school board has hired Jay LeFevre, who’s held teaching and administrative positions in the Pike-Delta-York School District, as interim superintendent for the coming school year.

His hiring is effective Aug. 16.

In 36 years at Pike-Delta-York, he was a teacher, coach, elementary school principal and superintendent.

During his three years as superintendent, he was credited with guiding the district from a negative financial outlook to a positive forecast through 2018.

Benton Township trustees will hold a trustee meeting on Aug. 22 at 7:30 p.m. in the North Point Educational Service Center, 1661 North Walker St. (Graytown Road), Graytown to discuss the dumping of spent lime from the City of Toledo’s Collins Park Water Treatment plant on the site of the former Stoneco Quarry on St. Rt. 590, owned by Rocky Ridge Development.

There have been several meetings to discuss the matter. Some residents are concerned about the impact it will have on their wells.

Oregon City Council last week approved legislation that increases the penalty charge to water customers for nonpayment of water bills and a fee to cover individual customer meter reading.

The number of water customers who are not paying their water bills is growing, according to Public Service Director Paul Roman.

In addition, there are homeowners who have not granted permission to the city to install an Electronic Remote Transmitter (ERT) to read water meters. As a result, the city still reads those meters manually, which is costlier and less efficient. The city went to the ERT system about eight years ago.

After listening to residents about how a metropark should be developed at the site of the Marina District in East Toledo, a planning firm intends to hold another public meeting next month to present proposals for the site based on the public’s input.

About 50 people attended an open house Monday at the East Toledo Family Center that begins the process of planning the development of the Marina District.

ProMedica last January said it would purchase about 70 acres along the Maumee River and then sell most of the land to the Metroparks of the Toledo Area for development of a park.

Water quality tests conducted on the water supply in the Oregon City School District revealed trace amounts of lead in four drinking fountains and an elevated level in one sink.

There was no evidence of lead contamination at or above the action level set by the Environmental Protection Agency in any of the drinking fountains in the district.

The EPA establishes an action level for lead detected at or above 15 parts per billion or more.
