The Woodmore school board is accepting letters of interest from district residents to fill a vacancy on the board created when member Chad Bringman submitted his resignation.

While Bringman is stepping down from the board, his wife, Linda, was issued a contract to be the school district’s next superintendent.

There has been little progress in getting sidewalks installed on Navarre Avenue between Coy and Lallendorf roads nearly six months after a group of disabled residents, many in wheelchairs, demonstrated to raise awareness of their plight to get to nearby shops and grocery stores in the area.

The group, which had discussed its concerns at the city’s Drainage, Roads, Buildings, and Lands Committee last Aug. 22, frequently travels in the street due to a lack of sidewalks.

The Ohio Sixth District Court of Appeals has upheld a lower court ruling that the Oregon Career & Technology Center did not violate the Ohio Consumer Sales Practices Act as contended by 12 students enrolled in the center’s Green Energy Program.

The students filed a lawsuit in December 2009 against the center, alleging its Green Energy, Electrical & Environmental Specialist adult education program was fraught with poor facilities, incompetent instructors, lack of instruction on promised curriculum, a lack of hands-on training, and there was no job shadowing as promised.

State bill offers transparency, sponsor says
A bill he’s introduced will promote transparency in the legislative process, says State Representative Rex Damschroder (R-Fremont).

House Bill 499 would allow the public and media greater access to the legislative committee process by requiring all written testimony given in House and Senate committees to be made public on the Internet within 10 business days.

About 100 residents packed into Oregon council chambers Tuesday to respond to the recreation committee’s proposal to gauge whether there is public support for construction of a multi-use recreation/community facility.

The vast majority of those attending were for such a facility, but some stressed they did not want to see additional taxes paying for it.
