Woodmore board interviewing candidates
The Woodmore school board has scheduled a special meeting for April 11 at 5:30 p.m. in the music room of the elementary school.

Board members plan to meet in executive session to interview candidates for a vacancy on the board created when Chad Bringman, who stepped down from the board due to time constraints with his position as director of the Ronald McDonald House Charities of Northwestern Ohio.

Chad Bringman submitted his resignation to the Woodmore Board of Education due to time constraints of his responsibilities as director of the Ronald McDonald House Charities of Northwester Ohio, not because his wife was appointed to be superintendent of the Woodmore School District as reported in the March 19 issue of The Press.

The current superintendent John Fernbaugh said that although it would be “protocol” for someone to resign from the board if a spouse were named superintendent, state law doesn’t prohibit spouses from serving on boards and the administration.

Linda Bringman’s contract as superintendent goes into effect July 1.

Students from the University of Toledo, who did a study on how to improve safety at Navarre Avenue and Wynn Road, asked Oregon City council to support their request for a left turn signal at the intersection.

Council has previously discussed whether safety could be improved at that intersection after 16-year-old Clay High School student Cody Van Hersett was killed there in a crash in January. Van Hersett was driving his vehicle west on Navarre Avenue when he collided with a semi that was turning left onto northbound Wynn Road. The truck driver was cited in the crash.

In last week’s article about Academy Games, the company founder’s name was spelled wrong. His name is Uwe Eickert. Volgograd, not Logograd, is formerly known as Stalingrad, the site of one of the most important and famous battles of World War II.  In addition, the Eickert Scissors manufacturing company did not go out of business. It was sold to Jarden Corporation which moved its operations to their McMinnville, Tenn. facilities where the business is still in existence. The Press regrets the errors.

The village of Genoa’s police chief has high hopes for a decent turnout at an April 5 meeting to organize a Block Watch program.

“The notices were sent out in water bills,” said Police Chief Bob Bratton. “We should have a good crowd – if the number of people who’ve told me they saw the notices in the water bills is any indication.”
