Members of the Lake school board haven’t decided whether to file a complaint about what they describe as “irregularities” at a precinct polling location during the special election Tuesday.

Board president Tim Krugh said Wednesday he believes there was an attempt to “discourage some pretty supportive voters” of the district but the board would address the matter later.

Although they’re savoring the passage of a 6.75-mill operating levy, members of the Lake school board took the precautionary step Tuesday evening of voting to proceed with a levy on the November ballot.

Tim Krugh, board president, said Wednesday that results of the special election – which saw the levy approved by a 137-vote margin, 1,501 for to 1,364 against – won’t be certified until late August but the board faced a deadline last week for placing an issue before voters in November.

An escaped cow-vict jumped an electric hotline fence and escaped its pasture nearly two weeks ago and is still at large.

Joe and Anne Zielinski stated, in an email to The Press, that the all-black cow, which stands four-feet high and weighs about 400 pounds, was last seen Sunday evening, July 29 fleeing the pasture at the corner of Billman and Moline-Martin roads. The Zielinskis tried to corral the cow but she eluded them, seeking cover in a corn field, then jumping onto the railroad tracks and fleeing east towards Clay Center.

Council on Monday will consider a resolution to get sidewalks installed along Navarre Avenue from Coy to Lallendorf roads to help elderly and disabled pedestrians get to Wal-Mart and other stores and shops in the area.

The project, which will be funded through assessments of area property owners, has been held up since last year because not enough signatures were obtained on petitions in support of the sidewalks.

A brief section of the Wood County Poll Worker Manual led to some confusion Tuesday at a precinct in Lake Township where voters are deciding a 6.75-mill school operating levy.

When Lee Herman, high school principal, went to vote shortly after 7 a.m. at precinct 420 in the township administration building, he was wearing a dark blue short-sleeved shirt with the Lake logo.
