Tony Packo’s Cafe Chief Operating Officer Rob Horvath says semi-trucks are illegally using Consaul Street in East Toledo’s Birmingham neighborhood.

In a letter obtained by The Press that Horvath wrote to District 3 councilman Mike Craig, the COO stated, “I was about to pull away from Packo’s at 11:40 a.m. today when a semi drove past and was headed east (towards Oregon) on Consaul Street. I decided to follow to see its destination point. Per our discussion in the parking lot yesterday, I suspected that the increase in heavy truck traffic on Consaul was not Toledo bound but rather Oregon bound.

A special enforcement effort to collect past due real estate taxes in Ottawa County has resulted in more than $1.1 million being collected in 18 months.

Mark Mulligan, county prosecutor, and Bob Hille, treasurer, said they’ve concluded the initial phase of their campaign to collect to overdue revenues, which focused on large delinquencies they claim were the result of willful failure to pay.

The Village of Genoa has succeeded in filling a vacant seat on council but the search for a new police chief has lost momentum.

For the second time this summer, the village has come up short in its search to replace former Police Chief Randy Hill. Hill, who had been placed on administrative leave for an undisclosed issue, then resigned without warning last November.

Rules developed by the Ohio Livestock Standards Board will go into effect Sept. 29, according to James Zehringer, director of the Ohio Department of Agriculture.

Farmland in Wood County has grown considerably in value the past three years, according to data released recently by the Ohio Department of Taxation.

The 2011 Current Agriculture Use Value (CAUV) figures for the county show a ”significant increase” from 2008, said Wood County auditor Mike Sibbersen, who will host an informational meeting Aug. 29 to discuss the soil valuation process.
