Public Service Director Paul Roman said at a council meeting on Monday that he will recommend that Dustin Road be repaved in phases.

Dustin Road and Isaac Streets Drive for years have been in poor condition. Roman said last year that Dustin and Isaac Streets are among the worst roads in the city.

The city sought grants to help fund the costly $2 million project, but was unsuccessful.

Chamber raising funds for new playground

Plans for a new playground at Pearson Metropark call for more than the typical swings and slides. The new landscape will have those elements, of course, but the Pearson Playscape will offer much more.

New playgrounds in the Metroparks are being designed with unique, interactive sculptures created by a local company to reflect the natural environments of the parks. At Pearson, the new playground will incorporate sculptures of trees and animals that are enticing to children and educational at the same time.

The Press encourages responses to articles and opinions. In order to provide for fair comment, The Press will have the following policy covering election letters to the editor:

The last issue for letters regarding the Aug. 7 special election will be the second issue (July 30)  before the election. No letters will be published in the issue immediately prior (Aug. 6)  to the election except for letters limited to direct rebuttal of election-related issues appearing in the second to last issue

Oregon City Council on Monday voted 6-1 to place on the Nov. 6 general election ballot a proposed charter change that would extend their time in office from two years to four-year, staggered terms.

Oregon voters have overwhelmingly defeated similar proposals in the past.

Currently, all seven council seats are up for re-election every two years as dictated by the city charter.

The Oregon school board last Tuesday voted 5-0 for P.J. Kapfhammer to be president of the board.

Dick Gabel was president until he resigned recently due to health issues. The board also voted for board member Diane Gadus, who had been acting president, as vice president of the board.

“I love this district and have spent my entire life in this community,” Kapfhammer said in a press release issued by the school district.  “The schools have been good to me and helped prepare me for success as a businessman.  I am honored to be elected President of the Oregon City Schools Board of Education.  We now have a new board and I am looking forward to providing the leadership necessary to move this district forward.”
