Many Woodmore students might have noticed a new face at Woodmore High School. Her name is Pimolpoin Jintarith or as others like to call her, Mo.

She is a foreign exchange student from Thailand, where she lives with her mom and dad.

In Thailand, Jintarith goes to school and attends afternoon activities. Unlike America, if students wish to participate in a sport, art, drama or other activity, he or she would have to sign up outside of school.

Two named to county park board

Two people have been appointed to the Wood County Park District Board of Commissioners,

Wood County Probate Judge David Woessner appointed Mary McCormick-Krueger, Perrysburg, and John Calderonello, Bowling Green, to three-year terms on the board from a field of six applicants.

Their terms begin Jan. 1, 2012.

Americans honor those who have answered the call to serve their country. This year, Woodmore high school
honored local veterans with an assembly held on Veterans Day.

The assembly featured patriotic music from the jazz band and symphonic chorale. The main speaker was retired Colonel Bob Hubbell, faculty member Britton Devier’s grandfather. The assembly was organized by Kristina Curtis and her AP History class. Curtis said she was pleased by how well the assembly went.

Not everyone has a goodwill-towards-man mindset when it comes to the holidays. This is also the time law enforcement officials say residents run into unexpected hassles like a surge in home and vehicle break-ins.

Home and car invasions consistently spike in the west end of Ottawa County as the holidays approach, said Genoa Police Chief Bob Bratton. The area’s proximity to Toledo as well as rural settings attract the criminal element, he said. The need for quick cash and drug habits drive the crime sprees.

Every day, thousands of kids are afraid to go to school because of bullies, says a curriculum provided to schools by the state department of education.

Studies show that bullying can cause depression, low self-esteem, and truancy among children of all ages.
