A multi-agency study of the flight patterns of migratory birds along the Lake Erie shoreline – and if the patterns would place flocks dangerously close to wind turbines - will enter its next phase with the expected arrival this week of more radar equipment at the Black Swamp Bird Observatory near Oak Harbor.

With the price of gasoline creeping up recently, more prospective buyers perusing the inventories of area car dealerships appear to be more interested in the gas mileage of most models than where the vehicles and their components are made.

“We do get a small percentage of customers who do ask about where it was made, or check the percentages on the window stickers that show where it was produced,” said Greg Dunn, gene

While we take time to celebrate American labor this Labor Day, Press reporters look at the difficulties of buying American-made products. This is best exemplified by the fact that the top two car models with the highest percentage of American-made parts are the Toyota Matrix and the Toyota Avalon, according to the American Automobile Labeling Act.

It has become a global marketplace and while consumers our reporters interviewed prefer to buy American, they weigh that desire against price and availability.

In an article on copper thefts in Northwood that appeared in the Aug. 27 edition of The Press, it should have stated that copper prices have risen from $1.50 per pound in 2009 to nearly $4 per pound in 2012. The Press regrets the error.

 

Volunteers sought to help couple hit with medical, financial woes

It has been a rough couple of years, to say the least, for Scott and Cali (Rotruck) Witt, of Gibsonburg.

On July 20, 2010, Scott and his daughter Jenna were in a serious vehicle accident at the corner of SR 51 and US 20 while on their way to the Ottawa County Fair.
