Genoa Village Council approved its $8.3 million temporary budget for 2012 at Monday’s meeting.

State law mandates passage of a temporary budget before year’s end. March 31 is the deadline for a final budget.

The legislation was passed with an emergency clause, which means the budget takes effect immediately rather than the normal 30-day waiting period after item’s passage, according to Fiscal Officer Chuck Brinkman.

Oregon City Council last Monday unanimously approved the city’s 2012 budget.

Administrator Mike Beazley said the city has held lengthy hearings with the Finance Committee “and considerable input from council,” on the proposed budget.

Beazley said $10,000 was added to the capital improvement budget for banners on Navarre Avenue since council discussed the budget at the last meeting.

The 620 students and staff at Starr Elementary School in Oregon was very busy this year collecting food for the Oregon Health and Welfare Advisory Committee’s annual Christmas Basket Program.

In fact, the Starr Bulldogs, with their teammates, The Angry Birds, collected so much that the school was left with a real mountain of food.

For the Lake Township trustees, Santa this year is dressed in a dark blue uniform.

Union members of the township police department have agreed to waive a 2 percent wage increase scheduled to go into effect in 2012.

The waiver will be in effect the first half of the year.
