New construction projects, increased revenue, round the clock EMS coverage, and less crime were among the highlights in Northwood Mayor Mark Stoner’s “State of the City” report given to council on Thursday.

“The message for 2012 is one of continuing challenge and guided optimism,” said Stoner. “We will continue to adhere to a prudent spending plan as we move through what we hope is a nearing end to the economic downturn of the last few years.”

With no defined route in place, the Rails-to-Trails Committee has nixed plans to submit a funding application this year for the Genoa leg of the trail.

The committee has until Feb. 1 to turn in a pre-funding application to the state for the North Coast Inland Trail project that would link Genoa to Elmore. A more defined version is due in March.

Officials studying the feasibility of a regional emergency dispatch center in northern Wood County are hoping their proposal fits the criteria of a new state program that offers financial incentives for local governments to come up with innovative ideas in the sharing and delivering of services.

Through the program, called the Local Government Innovation Fund, the Ohio Department of Development is trying to promote efficiency and collaboration among local entities.
