Hany elected VP of judges’ association

The Northwest Ohio Municipal/County Judges’ Association recently held its organizational meeting and elected officers:  Judge Michael R. Goulding, Toledo Municipal Court, is president and Judge Frederick C. Hany, II, Ottawa County Municipal Court, is vice president.

Secretary/treasurer is  Judge Michelle A. Wagner, Toledo Municipal Court

James S. Seaman, chairman of Oregon city council’s finance committee, is proposing a shared services plan that he believes will ease the burden on returning soldiers from Iraq and Afghanistan.

Seaman notes that since President Barack Obama has announced the withdrawal of troops from Iraq and Afghanistan, many Lucas County veterans will be returning home. He wants to use the county’s four title bureaus to help veterans.

It started with a question posed by Elmore Mayor Lowell Krumnow: Why hasn’t The Moving Wall ever come to the Elmore area?

Ron Distel, the man to whom the mayor posed the question, usually has a full plate of veteran-related projects and issues to keep him busy – he being the adjutant of American Legion Post 279 and a former post commander as well as a member of the Ottawa County Veterans Service Commission.

The Oregon Board of Education will continue to have police officers attend school board meetings because of threats that have been made to some board members.

Oregon Mayor Mike Seferian a few weeks ago had said the city would no longer allow police officers to be at school board meetings after he learned that the city was footing the bill.

Law enforcement agencies in northern Wood County are planning the formation of a regional Special Weapons and Tactics team.

A team of 12 to 14 officers from police departments in Lake and Perrysburg townships, the cities of Northwood and Rossford, the Village of Walbridge, and Owens Community College would be organized, according to planners who say a regional approach to a SWAT would significantly improve response times over the current format that draws on equipment and personnel based at the Wood County Sheriff’s Department in Bowling Green.
