Ellen Mix, the widow of Tim Mix, of Northwood, has filed a lawsuit in the Wood County Court of Common Pleas.

Mix, 67, waited 28 minutes for EMS personnel to arrive on the morning of March 3.

Ellen had called 9-1-1 to report that her husband was having breathing problems. She would call three times that morning, the last call relaying that her husband had stopped breathing.

By the time help arrived from Medic 804, an ambulance from Northwood Fire Station No. 1, manned by an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT), and Medic 50, an Advanced Life Support (ALS) rescue squad from Lake Township, Mix had stopped breathing.

Oregon Council member Sandy Bihn at a council meeting Monday said the algae in Lake Erie is getting worse.

“The situation in Lake Erie with the algae is becoming more and more grave,” she said to council. “There’s a lot of newspaper articles that are referring to Lake Erie as dying again. Obviously, that can impact the treatment cost for water intake, it can affect the economy of the lake and economy of the region.”

Last week’s decision by the Ohio Supreme Court of a dispute between the state and property owners bordering Lake Erie actually addressed three issues - drawing on court decisions dating back to 1878 and legislation enacted in the early 1900s.

In addition to the matter of the boundary between the owners’ property and the public territory of the lake, the court also ruled on whether the state, as distinct from the Ohio Department of Natural Resources, had legal standing to appeal the case, and also whether two environmental groups should have been allowed to intervene in the case.

The Third Annual Dirty Dog 5K Trail Run, the fourth and final run in this year’s Second Sole Trail Run Series, takes place at Cedar Creek Preserve in Northwood on October 29.

What is the difference between this five kilometer race and others? You can bring your dog along, or, don’t bring your dog along. It’s your choice.

A hearing is scheduled for Sept. 19 in Ottawa County Municipal Court in the murder case of a Westlake man found dead at Put-in-Bay.
